The Institute Labs

Our growing network of labs allows us to expand our vision and scope to develop and deepen our understanding and build instrumentation to assist growers, companies, retailers and eaters in accessing a food supply that is resilient and nutrient dense.

Massachusetts Lab

LOCATION: Boston, Massachusetts - this lab is now run by Edacious

ESTABLISHED: Summer 2021

ROLE: This lab is being built to improve upon the Bionutrient Meter, and to begin comprehensively defining Nutrient Density. In this lab we have the capacity to identify a complete spectrum of elements and biochemical molecules, as well as anti-nutrient factors, such as toxins and pathogens.

California Lab

LOCATION: Chico State University, California

ESTABLISHED: 2019

ROLE: Chico State is the U.S.’s only university Regenerative Ag program. The priority of this lab is to assess crops produced in side by side university trials, focused on the connection between management practices and soil carbon sequestration. This allows us to deepen our understanding of the connection between nutrient density and soil carbon.

France Lab

LOCATION: Combourtillé, France

ESTABLISHED: 2020

ROLE: In partnership with Eco-sens (formerly Valorex), our French lab was set up to address the desire from European growers to take part in our work assessing crops and soil. With partners from 6 different countries engaged through this lab, the vision of an international network of allies now has solid footing.

Utah Lab

LOCATION: Utah State University, Logan, Utah

ESTABLISHED: 2022

ROLE: The Center for Human Nutrition Studies at Utah State University is committed to studying linkages between sustainable agricultural and human health. The research team is actively working on projects linking health along the soil-plant-animal-human health continuum and defining nutrient density in foods from various production practices. The team also conducts randomized controlled trials to study human health biomarkers in response to these foods.

United Kingdom Lab

LOCATION: James Hutton Institute, Scotland

ESTABLISHED: 2022

ROLE: Growing Real Food for Nutrition (Grffn) is a new not for profit based in England that wants to extend and support the work of the Bionutrient Institute and its partners.  Grffn has  commissioned the James Hutton Institute to carry out its laboratory work in the UK.

“The Bionutrient Institute is a vehicle for changing the food system making quality an explicit agricultural outcome. Agriculture can be the change if we actually value quality, as well as our health and wellbeing as a species.”
