Engaging A Cross Sectoral

GLOBAL COALITION

AROUND NUTRIENT-DENSE FOOD

Event:

Engaging a Cross-Sectoral Global Coalition Around Nutrient-Dense Food

Human & Ecosystem Health

Context & Purpose

Nutrient density is rapidly gaining momentum as a unifying concept across the food system. It offers a unique opportunity to connect movements focused on

- climate resilience

- human health

- farm viability

- ecosystem regeneration

- holistic agricultural practices

We are hosting a series of Listening Sessions together with thought leaders and stakeholders from across sectors as part of a global series aimed at building alignment and shared understanding around nutrient density. Our goal is to present a draft framework, share an emerging scientific report, and then invite critical insights and diverse perspectives, to begin refining an

- inclusive

- scientifically rigorous

- actionable definition

To support this effort, the Bionutrient Institute is leading the foundational research required to empirically define nutrient density. A key milestone in this journey has been the development of the Bionutrient Meter - a handheld spectrometer designed to measure nutrient quality at the point of purchase. The current focus is calibrating this tool against a standard metric, which is being established through ongoing data collection and analysis. The Listening Sessions provide a first look at where that work stands and invites partners to help guide the next phase.

Why This Gathering Matters

Minimum Value Proposition

  • Be among the first to engage with and influence a groundbreaking global effort to define nutrient density

  • Contribute your expertise to shape a framework that could transform how food is grown, assessed, and valued

  • Participate in setting a shared course of action for research, policy, and implementation

What You Will Gain

  • Influence a global framework with your leadership

  • Join an emerging network of aligned practitioners and funders

  • Contribute to shaping a practical, cross-sectoral strategy for food systems transformation

  • Share your organization’s vision and learn from others

  • Help build a foundation for larger collaborative funding and advocacy efforts

1. Laying out a plan forward

  • The Plan of Action

  • Present the draft strategy and scientific update on nutrient density research

  • Facilitate structured input to refine and expand this framework

  • Build a coalition to align on language, standards, and public-facing messaging

2. The Status Today

  • Data collection is underway through the Bionutrient Institute

  • Efforts are focused on defining a robust, evidence-based standard for nutrient density

3. Opportunities Over the Next 3 Years

  • Deepen scientific validation and calibration of tools like the Bionutrient Meter

  • Pilot bioregional programs that link farmers, researchers, and buyers

  • Build capacity for coordinated messaging and advocacy at your national level

  • Foster cross-sectoral investment in a regenerative nutrient-dense food economy

4. The Vision

If successful, this initiative could fundamentally reshape how food is understood and valued - shifting incentives across the supply chain toward regeneration, transparency, and quality.

Consumers would be empowered to make better-informed decisions, while farmers and food producers would be supported by clear standards, aligned markets, and greater economic viability. This is part of a grander vision called “Mycelia” which will be discussed also.

Integrating the Mycelia Strategy

Should “Mycelia” be developed as envisioned, it will serve as a digital and organizational backbone

for this movement - providing the infrastructure for shared data, knowledge transfer, network

governance, and aligned funding. Mycelia would be essential to operationalizing the nutrient density

framework at scale, enabling trust, traceability, and coordination across regions and sectors. In this

light, the success of the nutrient density initiative is strategically tied to the development of “Mycelia.”

Goals of the Gathering

  • Present the draft strategy and current status of nutrient density work

  • Identify knowledge gaps and collaborative opportunities

  • Build early alignment on principles, standards, and process

  • Explore endorsements and coalition-building strategies

  • Foster shared ownership across sectors and geographies

  • Lay the groundwork for a well-resourced, inclusive next phase

Broader Process & Fundraising Alignment

This gathering is the first of five global convenings leading toward the development of a nutrient density

framework and coalition-driven research initiative.

Phased Fundraising Goals (2026–2028)

Participants will be invited to explore support options through tranched donations, coalition-building, and shared resource mobilization.

Closing Note

“This is a moment to shape a powerful shared vision for nutrient-dense food systems.

We invite you not just to attend - but to engage, challenge, contribute, and co-create.

The strength of this initiative lies in the diversity and depth of its collaborators.

Together, we can define nutrient density in a way that serves people, planet, and future generations.“
